Goliath Sister 2 #15002

400.00

Click here to see a short video of the piece.

She is one of a pair of sculptures, each slightly different and *flawed like the maker (see note below).

Also take note that with these heavy ladies I have the same low, low rate worldwide of €10.00 / $10.50 for postage, so there are no surprises and a saving of €45.00.

Influenced from a blend of creatures including the Goliath Beetle, crab claws, the ladybird insect and a mermaids purse, they are a product of my imagination come to life. They are handmade using a coil technique, that is then carved and embellished with texture using earthstone clay and clay slip. After the first firing they were then hand painted, the armoured shell motif derived from the intricate detail found on the shell of the goliath beetle mixed with the famous Rorschach ink blots used as a psychological test.

On these pieces a small application of clear glaze is used before the third and final firing (reaching 1140 degrees) found on the two sides and top slits. I use the glazed and unglazed ceramic side-by-side to reflect the symbiotic relationship of a shell and the flesh within.

Note: *Flawed like the maker : The Sisters are being offered at a very reduced price due to small cracks on both pieces that are not structural and do not affect the presence and beauty of these sculptures. I have made sure to show them in the photographs. With Goliath Sister 2 there are two narrow cracks seen in image 12 and 13 and another on the end seen in image 7.

All work is signed by the artist D.F.C. (Darren Francis Cassidy).
